With a new range-topping S model pushing peak power output to 727hp, the Aston Martin DBX SUV is the most powerful non-electrified SUV, surpassing even the 725hp Ferrari Purosangue. Aston Martin has also utilized the S label on an SUV for the first time; usually, it has been used on its line of high-performance supercars.

The new DBX S generates 20hp more than the aptly called DBX 707 with 707hp. Though it has been modified with bigger compressor wheel diameters from the Valhalla, it keeps the same 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine. It has also been adjusted for greater "urgency" at the high end of the rev counter. Though the 0-100kph sprint time of 3.3 seconds has stayed same from DBX 707, the outcome is that 0-200kph now appears in 0.3 seconds shorter. The 900Nm torque output has also been constant.
The steering ratio is now 4 percent faster, the turning radius has been cut by almost half a meter, and there is also a new exhaust system that amplifies the V8. Though Aston Martin claims the change-up points for the gearbox have been revised to reflect the broader rev range, the variable all-wheel drive system and 9-speed wet-clutch automatic transmission have been carried over from the DBX 707. The downshifts in Sport and Sport+ modes are more aggressive.

Aston Martin DBX S weight reduction strategies
47 kg lighter than the DBX 707
Apart from gaining more power, the new DBX S also loses a notable 47 kg of the DBX 707's weight. Apart from also assisting reduce the centre of gravity, this has been accomplished using an optional carbon fibre roof that skips roof rails and alone accounts for 18kg of the weight saved. An optional polycarbonate honeycomb grille and 23-inch magnesium wheels, which are 19kg lighter than the regular aluminium ones, are also available. The final outcome is a total kerb weight of 2198kg, which by any standard still isn't very light.

Looks angrier, gets custom interior
Among the many cosmetic modifications are a redesigned rear diffuser, a new front splitter, a black grille design motivated by the DBS 770 Ultimate, and revised side sills guiding airflow around the car's side. The twin exhausts on either side at the rear are now vertically stacked rather than horizontally arranged as on the 707.
Inside, a custom S design with a herringbone pattern on the seats runs to the headliner should the carbon fibre roof be chosen. While red seatbelts are available, semi-aniline leather is not; Alcantara upholstery is standard. There is also a 23-speaker Bowers & Wilkins system options.
Aston Martin DBX S competitors
The Aston Martin DBX S competes with the Porsche Cayenne Turbo, Lamborghini Urus and the Ferrari Purosangue. It is more powerful than the normally aspirated 6.5-litre, V12-powered Ferrari, as previously noted, but it falls short of competitors using electric powertrains like the 739hp Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid or the 800hp Urus SE.
